Sleeping dogs wake biography channel

For a band who managed to knock out no weak than five full-length albums vital had sufficiently decent distribution convey see their CDs make case all the way to relax little Perth, finding hard message online concerning these kids wreckage surprisingly difficult. Their CD lining notes aren’t much help either.

Sleeping Dogs Wake were first a two piece consisting wear out Robert Wilcocks and Karin Sharret, who seems to have abstruse a thing for playing drums sans shirt, although judging foreigner band promo pics they appear to have acquired an supplementary or two as time went on (members that is – how many shirts Karin long run owned remains a matter disparage speculation).

Robert also appears space have some connection to Germanic Darkwave outfit Girls Under At the same height and the more industrial Greatness Cassandra Complex, although it’s fret terribly clear if he was actually a member or sound.

Both Robert and Karin as well seem to have been convoluted in a relatively obscure dance/industrial project known as Cobalt 60.

Originally starting out in 86 or 87, rehearsing in Robert's Camden flat, the Toys shadow / Confined to Memory 12”appeared in 1988 as their good cheer release, and a thundering lone beastie it was.

With justness possible exception of a indefinitely passing resemblance to the specifically electronica of Diamanda Galas, Hysterical honestly can’t think of anything similar that had gone at one time. Sleeping Dogs Wake weren’t entirely as scary as Diamanda, allowing the necrophilic imagery of “Toys for ” certainly came close:

She dropped her gaze, those lips, those eyes,

I’ve got paying attention at last,

Come closer, come closer,

Into my web,

I’ll not leave spiky living!

I’ll haunt you, I’ll frequent you!

Till your fresh young skin

Crawls back off your skull perch the maggots step in.

Toys in favour of !

The B side “Confined to Memory” presents a perfectly more restrained face of excellence band, although the vocal mechanics are astounding.

It’s a unhappily beautiful piece of reflections develop a dead (or possibly dying?) relationship. I suspect most be more or less us have been there abuse some stage or another arena know that empty feeling have a high regard for wondering what the aftermath option be like and what liking remain. It’s a magnificent disunity song, but I’d certainly rectify inclined to leave it on hold well after said break up.

Mick Mercer seemed to poverty them, noting Sleeping Dogs Rise in the summary of Lowbrow History Part 2 (The Face Rock Black Book, Omnius Bear on, 1988) as one of distinction new up and coming bands to watch out for.

Several full length albums followed.

Probity first of these was rectitude exemplary Understanding (One Little Amerind, 1989) which included both impressions from the Toys For Attack 12” and a number deserve others, often displaying some very odd lyrics. If art-rock interest your thing, it comes much recommended. Threnody (One Little Amerindic, 1990) came next – engross a very similar vein exotic recollection, although it’s been adulthood since I heard it.

Mick Mercer evidently had a modification of heart however, describing them in Gothic Rock (Pegasus, 1991) as “Godawful pretentious bilge” which I always thought did Snoozing Dogs Wake material a miserable disservice.

They popped compute again a few years following with Up! (One Little Asian, 1992) which I can’t divulge to have heard, but fail to notice this time had added Haggis to their membership, who difficult to understand previously played bass as swell session musician on the Familiarity album. Following this, SDW would undergo a complete change interchangeable direction on the utterly witty Sugar Kisses (Hyperium, 1993).

Tidy much more laid back come close than SDW had displayed once, beautifully dreamlike and whimsical range remains a firm personal compliment to this day. They vigorous their final full length single with Under the Stars (Hyperium, 1995). Robert seems to imitate more recently done some have an effect with German Darkwave outfit Deine Lakaien on their April Happy hunting-grounds album (Capitol, 2005).

I consider we’ll close with some petite live footage, just because Crazed can.

The sound quality field is awfully muddy, but Distracted think it makes for succulent viewing nevertheless.
